Dr Keith Pettengell
Keith qualified at Liverpool University in 1972 and obtained his MRCP in 1978. He worked in the Gastrointestinal Unit at King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban and wrote his doctoral thesis on intestinal Tuberculosis obtaining his MD degree in 1989. Since 1990 he has been in private practice at Parklands and Umhlanga Hospitals, Durban, as a Specialist Gastroenterologist. Keith has a vast experience in treating patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Prof. Janneke van der Woude
Janneke is an associate professor in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Currently she leads the Clinical Unit for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Research on the different aspects of IBD, in close cooperation with the departments of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pathology, Psychology and Internal Medicine. She has published articles on several aspects of IBD such as quality of life for IBD patients and colitis-related cancer. Janneke is a board member of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation.

Dr. Gill Watermeyer
Gill is a Specialist Gastroenterologist in the Gastrointestinal Clinic at Groote Schuur Hospital. She graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1990 and subsequently completed her post graduate studies in 2002. Her main research interest focus is on Inflammatory Bowel Disease, intestinal tuberculosis and probiotics. Gill is a member of SAGES Council on the Guidelines Committee.

Dr. David Epstein
David is a Specialist Gastroenterologist practicing at Vincent Pallotti Hospital, Cape Town. He is also a part-time lecturer in the Department of Medicine at the University of Cape Town. David has an interest in inflammatory bowel disease and is involved in a National IBD Registry project for South Africa.

Sr. Ingrid Regenass
Ingrid is an integral health coach with a private practice in Cape Town. She is a registered nurse and also has qualifications in exercise and fitness, applied clinical nutrition, counselling and coaching. She has worked in the field of promoting optimal health for over 20years. Her solution-focused approach addresses all aspects of living a healthy balanced life. Her work provides a way forward for those living with a chronic disorder with the intention of improving quality of life.

Dr. Danie Pauw
Danie is the managing director of Health24.com, South Africa’s leading consumer health information website. He is a medical doctor with an interest in patient education. He qualified at the University of Stellenbosch in 1986. Prior to founding Health24, Danie established a health information telephonic service in Johannesburg. Health24.com is visited by around 450 000 unique users per month.
